Summary
Presented in conjunction with the Enduring Spirit of Vietnam tour, Spires — Cathedrals of Vietnam’s Red River Delta is a photographic exhibition by celebrated artist Peter Steinhauer. The collection features sweeping images of 19th and early 20th century churches built in Vietnam’s Red River Delta, where French Gothic and Romanesque styles blend with Vietnamese architectural sensibilities.
The photographs illuminate a chapter of Vietnamese history shaped by cultural adaptation and artistic ingenuity. Many of these structures now face neglect or demolition, making the exhibition both a celebration and a preservation of a fading architectural era. Through his work, Steinhauer invites viewers into a space where spirituality, artistry, and history converge.
The exhibition ran weekdays at PLACE, with an artist talk and reception on April 17 that welcomed community members, students, and cultural practitioners.
